Intermidon 37 Share Posted August 26, 2015 Has anyone heard about the reporter and cameraman that were shot dead on Live TV today? It's such an insane story, the assailant fled and shot himself after he crashed. I think he should have started with himself first, bastard.http://edition.cnn.com/2015/08/26/us/virginia-shooting-wdbj/What implications does this have on gun control? Is it fair to be implying that there's a racial aspect to this shooting and just not some whackjob going nuts? What are your thoughts on the whole matter? Timothystrick 12 Share Posted August 26, 2015 Gun violence is, in most cases, senseless. This was not the psychological preemptive happenings of a soon-to-be race war. This was a deranged man and his vendetta against a former employer and former coworkers. People that carry out actions such as this are deserving of a fate much worse than death. On to gun control - The statistics are clear. An armed populace is a safe populace. In Switzerland, a gun is issued to every household. Gun violence in this country is the lowest among first-world nations. In Israel, all able-bodied adults serve a minimum of two years in the Israeli Armed Forces. It is commonplace to carry a small PDW type weapon such as a fully-automatic pistol or what many gamers know as a sub-machine gun. Armed robberies in Israel are nearly non-existent as both shop owners and patrons alike are likely to be carrying a firearm of .223 caliber or higher. Recently, a video surfaced showing a man attempting to rob an Israeli jewelry store, then being blown through the front glass with an astonishing 27 wounds from 63 cartridges fired from 6 weapons. Gun control does not stop criminals from obtaining weapons. Most guns used in firearm-related murders are illegally obtained and marketed. Restrictions on the sell/purchase of firearms will NOT stop criminals from obtaining them. It will simply stop law abiding citizens from having the means by which to protect themselves and their family. I grew up with guns. I was taught to respect the object for what it is; a weapon. I will now tell you what my father, a former Marine who saw action in the Gulf War, told me. "Son, any man can draw a weapon on another. It's a simple action to level the barrel and line the beads. But if you ever find yourself in a situation where you are the one holding the weapon, know this; there is no backing down. Never draw a weapon unless you are mentally and physically prepared to use it. Because the man whose life you've threatened will not hesitate if given the chance to kill you." I've never drawn a gun on another human being. Nor do I wish to. But if I were to wake up tonight with someone in my home, with my fiance and I, I would not hesitate to protect that which I love. I would never commit a crime with any of my firearms, but I feel that I need them. I hope I never do. But I sleep with a Walther P38 within reach and at the ready just in case. It would be a terrible feeling to end another man's life. But it would be far worse to watch as another man ended the life of my fiance.
