Amaterasu 1 Share Posted December 4, 2014 How can one be "good" in a forum? Lol. there are several things that you can be good at in a forum, like good in posting/helping/trolling/chilling/grilling/getting grills etc

Explicit 213 Share Posted December 4, 2014 That's more of a contracted gig. That's not sustainable so you can't compare it. I'm sure most of us have made >$200/hr with our osbot scripts. No, it's literally a lifetime opportunity.

Explicit 213 Share Posted December 4, 2014 Salaried, 40 hours a week? Of course not, I'll live in a box before I let someone tell me when and when not to work. It's consulting, so they pretty much tell me what they need done and I'll complete it when I have time. Obviously I can't wait 3 months to make a minor program change, but I can literally take days off as long as I complete the work within a reasonable amount of time. Also, they're a relatively small company (only 3-5 million per year in net profit) so most years I'll only be making about $50k. My dad (who handed them off to me) made 6 figures off them one year since a lot of work had to be done but typically averaged about $60k.

Sure you may work less, but I wouldn't go buying big ticket items being as you're still a consultant. They can let you go at any time without repercussion. At least if you're salaried, they have to give you a valid reason for firing or laying off. My argument still stands, it's not sustainable. I wouldn't go about making a living off of it if I wasn't the boss.

That could be the dumbest thing I've ever heard, and I don't think you understand consulting correctly if you think you can't make a living off it it. The company I work for just laid off 20 consultants because they were no longer needed. Consultants are temporary employees. Agree to disagree? andrew 7 Share Posted December 14, 2014 I'm one semester away from completing my degree. After that continue working for the Canadian government or start a master's degree in horticulture.
