    Jagex Trade Analysis in RuneScape

Jagex analyzes trade activity in RuneScape to prevent fraud, Real-World Trading (RWT), and unfair practices.

    How Does Jagex Analyze Trades?

Jagex uses several methods to monitor trading activity and prevent abuse:

    Trade Pattern Analysis

    • They check whether trades appear natural.
    • For example, if one player transfers large amounts of gold to another without a clear reason, it may raise suspicion.

    Grand Exchange (GE) Data Monitoring

    • Jagex tracks price fluctuations and unusual purchases.
    • If an item is suddenly bought in large quantities and sold at an unnaturally high price, the system may flag the activity.

    Player-to-Player Trade Monitoring

    • Jagex checks if one player repeatedly sends items or gold to another without a clear reason.
    • For instance, if a newly created account transfers millions of gold coins to another account, it could indicate RWT.

    IP Address and Account Connections

    • If trades occur between accounts that frequently log in from the same IP addresses or suspicious locations, Jagex may flag them as suspicious.

    Automated Warnings and Bans

    • If the system detects potential RWT or other suspicious trade activity, the account may face trade restrictions or even be banned.

How to Avoid Trade Restrictions or Bans?

Avoid unexplained large trades – If you're transferring large sums to a friend, do so naturally, e.g., in smaller amounts.
Don't use intermediary accounts – Jagex closely monitors trades between newly created accounts as suspicious.
Don't buy gold with real money – RWT is strictly prohibited and can lead to an account ban.
If transferring gold between accounts, do it naturally – For example, by selling items through the Grand Exchange.

People give conflicting advice based on anecdotal evidence and a simplistic view of cheat detection, which ends up being detrimental to everyone.
For example, using the same IP for multiple accounts/mules isn't enough to get you banned. Of course it helps to NOT use the same IPs, as long as the IPs used are of good reputation.

The cheat detection isn't a simple checklist-based metric, it's a dynamic interplay between hundreds of different factors that contribute to the final result. For this reason, someone using the same IP for everything may never get caught, while someone who doesn't may get caught immediately. It all depends on the combination of ALL the factors that are used to detect you.

What we should do is create a list of best practices and stick to all of them to reduce your banrate. No one even needs to tell you what these are because they're obvious.

For example, you don't want to be botting dozens of hours per day, you don't want to create an account, pass tutorial and go immediately into high efficient 8-hour per day farming. You don't want to be creating accounts / using accounts with datacenter IPs, residential ones are much better. Essentially you want to pretend you are different people playing normal runescape, everyone knows what to do. Not adhering to even one of these could be enough to detect you as unusual.

Most people I see recommending strategies based on simplistic views of anticheat aren't addressing the main factor. It doesn't matter whether you're doing X and Z perfectly if you're not doing Y. It's like having a perfectly-looking AI image, perfect clarity, buildings are perfect, the roads are amazing, but then the guy has 7 fingers. It's mathematically better for you to be slightly worse at each factor but doing them all than being the best at most and ignoring some.

Just some advice from someone who has created anticheat systems as well as methods to bypass it in other games, so take it with a grain of salt.

TLDR: The best advice to bypass any cheat system: always try your very best to perform actions you would normally perform if you were not cheating.
