@holic FYI - I noticed that maybe new instruction is needed, 'ensure you have a few spaces available in your inventory at all times for this to solve freaky forester random event' - I use jug of wine a lot, and when I have full inventory (or i'd imagine if I had full inventory of any food) it doesn't drop an item to pick up the chicken in the event - otherwise it does solve the event correctly. Please let me know your thoughts @holic

Try removing the folder and running the zip file again manually so it creates all the files again.

Do you have enough memory (RAM) ? Are you using a fast computer or a slower computer/laptop? Do you have a screenshot of what you see? (exclude your character name please).

I've noticed that if you have the first top left item slot in the inventory empty this happens - was this the case with you? Try this test: move any other item in the inventory to the top left spot and see if this happens.
