Nuclear Nezz 2012 Share Posted October 1, 2015 How do you feel about that kid who brought a clock hooked into a pencil case into school? I just read about some most likely fake drug called optimind that's supposed to improve your brain functionality through combining 12 different ingredients that are generally used separately (caffeine, vitamin d, vitamin b, etc) What do you guys think about those "make yourself smarter!" pills? I think it could be pretty nice if they were more specifically labeled as pills to temporarily decrease brain fatigue, rather than trying to emulate that limitless movie. Dreamlicker 749 Share Posted October 1, 2015 "Smart pills" are certainly a gimmick, but there are psychoactive substances out there that can increase certain parts of cognitive function. IE: Modafinil, a popular nootropic. While similar to an amphetamine, it doesn't take the same route of action in the brain, which is quite a good thing as most amphetamines and stimulants work by increasing either the amount of dopamine being released (DRA) or reducing the amount of dopamine that is re-absorbed by the brain (DRI) or both norepinephrine/dopamine reuptake inhibition (NDRI). Basically, we are advancing in pharmaceutical discoveries that can help your brain work in more effective ways cognitively without damaging your ability to re-uptake dopamine(DRI/NDRI) normally or your ability to even produce it (DRA). Essentially, it's a good thing (for nootropics), but I don't think what you've listed is really going to help anyone in a drastic manner. Key: DRA - Dopamine releasing agent DRI - Dopamine reuptake inhibitor NDRI - Norepinephrine and Dopamine reuptake inhibitor
