Looking to try some scripting

I am looking to try do some scripting, trying to follow tutorials but they seem to be slightly out dated and wondering if there is any updated tutorials i could run through, either that or im not going through the tutorials properly but ive been following the steps and always come across things that arent mentioned on how to fix.

 

any help is appreciated as im completely new to it.
