    I'm also like 50% sure that rocks have different IDs when they're out of ore.

    Not iirc, I've always done something similar to what rick demonstrated above by checking the model color.

    Most rocks do. I wrote a mining script last night, and I noticed. 

     

    I think ID's are subject to change, so they shouldn't be hardcoded. If they are, your script is likely to break over time. The model color is a safer bet, I would assume.

     

    UPDATE FROM FUTURE: Sure, model color works great for detecting if rock is out of ore.
